As I get older, I treat my archive photographs with greater care, both in their physical state and in respect of what they mean to me as personal memories. Having been lucky enough to travel to many corners of the world my memories of places are varied. Today the World still fascinates me. Mountains, lakes, valleys and meadows combine to produce a series of images that seem familiar. Often we think of stereotypes - alpine pastures, contented cows grazing lush grass, wooden chalets and snow-capped mountains. However, although there is much truth in this narrow view, it does little justice to the spectacular variety of terrain that Switzerland is able to offer the visitor.

This web site offers my personal view of railways across the globe. Content is drawn from a mixture of current and archive material that reflects my experiences of trains, locomotives and rail travel. I hope the site is also of interest to those people who are less passionate about railways and that the information contained in these pages is of value to them in their travels.
